Optimal Brain Organization (BG 201)
"Optimal performance follows movement patterns across the midline of the body in reciprocal left and right dirctions (as in Lazy 8's). Our earliest and oldest movement patterns (such as scanning the horizon) are directed away from the midline, while the more recently developed patterns of movement toward the midline represent a higher order of neurological functioning." (Dennison and Dennison)
